The Omphalos - Greek for belly button - is a symbol of origins and beginnings, a feminine alternative to the masculine Phallus. It is the 'scar', etched into our bodies, that speaks of our uterine existence and original bond with our mother, severed at birth - a constant reminder of both our deep connection with her and our separation and independence.
