Title: For Sale
Media: Screenprint, pencil, and pastel
Dimensions: 45cm x 45cm
As the book For Sale unfolds, it reveals a 'narrative' about judgments. The words 'accepted' and 'rejected' are repeated throughout the book as a sign of approval or disapproval. At first, the judgments appear to be based on aesthetic considerations, both those imposed on and those carried out by artists themselves. Later, however, aesthetic judgments are increasingly confused with other types of judgments: sexual, social, and cultural. In a complex and evolving ‘collage’ of print, drawing, photographic imagery and text, political references and personal indexical traces continuously connect (or interrupt) more formal aesthetic ‘set-ups’ such as the grid, or compositions of geometric abstract shapes.
