Falling
Photographic print on MDF
Dimensions: 101 cm x 153 cm
Falling is the outcome of a collaborative project between the artist and her two oldest daughters. Asking them to engage in a certain activity, the children thought it boring, and found a way to transform the task into a game they could claim as their own: abandoning themselves to spinning round and round, and falling, drunk on recklessness and vertigo.
This photograph stands out from other works in the series (not documented here). It testifies to a kind of ‘letting go’ and bodily immersion, to sheer joy and release, to a performed sense of the sublime, further evoked by the black space that draws the viewer into the abyss.
