Stripped Bare is part of a more recent body of work that explores the light and organic rhythm of repeated forms - tree trunks and branches - that populate the dense ancient woodlands of Kent. As in much of her earlier work, the stillness and elegance of her selected scenes are not only foregrounded but also dramatically enhanced. Yet typically, they are not without accompanying sinister undertones. The bare, cold beauty of the depicted wilderness, an entangled mass of jagged edges, stark shadows, and bright highlights, exude a sense of foreboding menace. This is not a place of belonging and comfortable retreat, but one of mystery, wonder, and contemplation.
